22.01.18: London Design Biennale

London Design Biennale 2018

At the second London Design Biennale 2018 from 4 to 23 September over 30 nations from six continents will present themselves at Somerset House in London. The Austrian contribution, curated by Thomas Geisler, Director of Werkraum Bregenzerwald, is a research commission of studio Design Investigations (ID2) headed by Anab Jain at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. A highlight on the global cultural calendar, the Biennale will see some of the world’s most exciting and ambitious designers, innovators and cultural bodies gather to explore the universal power of design and the role of design in our collective futures.

The theme ‘Emotional States’ has been chosen to provoke a broad interpretation across design disciplines, with installations that interrogate how design affects every aspect of people’s lives – the way we live and how we live – but also influences our very being, emotions and experiences.

“After Abundance” is the leitmotif of the investigative project, which is currently being researched by the studio Design Investigations and will be presented in autumn as a space-filling installation at the London Design Biennale. How do we live in a world of scarce resources? What will be the role of design and its players? On the basis of selected fields of work and topics, the emerging designers present possible scenarios of an Austria in the near future.
